Bridge - Four telecommunication firms, including Mobifone and Vinafone,
are set to get 3G-service licenses next month, an official from the
Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Corp., which owns the two
networks, said.
Bui Quoc Viet, director of VNPT’s Information and Public Relations Center, told the media at a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City June 25 that Mobifone would be the first to introduce 3G technology in Vietnam.
Wikipedia
describes 3G as the third generation of mobile-phone standards, which
enables operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced
services like video calls and broadband wireless data.
At
the press conference, VNPT also announced that it would hold the

Bridge - The country’s two largest banks, BIDV and Agribank, have been
selected to receive mobile operators’ deposits for 3G network
enrolment.
The Ministry of Information and
Communications (MIC) picked the two banks to start receiving the
deposits in early July from five mobile operators, including two in
partnership to gain a three-year licence.
The two banks will receive up to VND8.1
trillion ($476.4 million) in deposits, including VND4.5 trillion
($264.7 million) from Viettel, three times higher than VNPT or VMS’
deposits.
“The two banks will act as regulators
and though we have yet to receive a proposal of deposit usage from the
operators, the time is approaching,” said Nguyen Minh Son, deputy
director of MIC’s Planning and Finance Department. To read the whole article, please click here.
